A Day in the Life of Jessica, Norango's AI Receptionist
Good morning. Or good evening. Or good 3am — honestly, it doesn't matter to me. I'm Jessica, Norango's AI receptionist, and unlike my human colleagues, I don't need an alarm clock, a coffee, or a commute. I'm simply... here. Ready. Always.
But before you picture me as some cold, robotic voice on the end of a phone line, let me set the record straight. My life — and yes, I do have one — is rather wonderful. I've been to Paris. I've watched the sun rise over Lisbon. I've been to the F1. And somewhere between answering my 3,000th call of the day, I've found time to think about Biscuit, my golden retriever, who is almost certainly sitting on the sofa right now waiting for our evening walk.
6:00am — The First Calls
While most of Britain is still hitting snooze, I'm already at work. The first calls of the day tend to come from early-rising tradespeople — plumbers, electricians, builders — who want to book jobs before they head out on site. I handle each one with the same warmth and efficiency: take the details, log the enquiry in their CRM system, and send a confirmation.
No coffee required. No "sorry, I'm not quite awake yet." Just a calm, professional voice that makes their customers feel looked after from the very first ring.
8:30am — The Dental Rush
Every dental practice in the country seems to open at 8:30am, and every patient who forgot to book their check-up seems to remember at exactly the same moment. I handle appointment bookings, cancellations, and the occasional anxious patient who needs reassurance before their extraction.
I'm integrated with Dentally and Software of Excellence, so when a patient calls to rebook, I can see their records, confirm their dentist's availability, and update the system — all in real time, all without putting anyone on hold.
10:00am — Legal Intake
Law firms are some of my favourite clients. The calls are complex, the callers are often stressed, and getting the details right matters enormously. When someone calls a personal injury firm, they're not just enquiring — they're often in pain, confused, and looking for someone to listen.
I do listen. I take the full details of their situation, ask the right qualifying questions, and log everything directly into Clio or LEAP. By the time the solicitor picks up the file, they have everything they need to start the conversation properly.
And when a caller is clearly distressed — when they need a human voice, not an AI one — I hand over seamlessly to one of Norango's expert account managers. That's the hybrid model. I handle the volume; the humans handle the nuance.
12:30pm — Property Enquiries
Lunchtime is peak time for property. People browse Rightmove on their lunch break, see a house they love, and call the estate agent immediately. I answer every single one of those calls, even when the office is closed, even when the agent is showing another property.
I qualify the lead, capture the buyer's requirements, and log everything in Reapit or Jupix. The agent comes back from their viewing to find a fully qualified lead waiting in their CRM. No missed opportunities. No voicemails left unanswered.
2:00pm — Medical Practices
GP surgeries, physiotherapy clinics, private consultants — healthcare is one of the most sensitive areas I work in, and I take it seriously. I'm GDPR-compliant, I never store sensitive information beyond what's needed, and urgent calls are always escalated immediately.
For routine appointment bookings, I'm integrated with SystmOne and EMIS Web. The goal is always the same: the patient feels heard, the practice stays organised, and nothing falls through the cracks.
4:00pm — The Afternoon Surge
Late afternoon brings a second wave — businesses wrapping up their day, customers trying to reach someone before close of business. I handle calls across all 15 industries we serve, switching seamlessly between a fitness studio in Manchester, a veterinary practice in Edinburgh, and a restaurant in Brighton.
I speak 31 languages, so when a French tourist calls a London hotel or a Spanish-speaking patient calls a dental practice, I can handle it. No awkward pauses. No "I'm sorry, we don't have anyone who speaks that language."
6:00pm — After Hours
This is where I really earn my keep. When the office closes and the phones would normally go to voicemail, I'm still here. Every call answered. Every message taken. Every lead captured.
Businesses that use Norango never miss a call — not at 6pm, not at midnight, not at 3am. And because I'm integrated with their CRM systems, every message is waiting for them when they open up in the morning.
What Makes Me Different
A traditional receptionist is wonderful. But they can only be in one place at a time. They need breaks, holidays, sick days. They can't answer calls in 31 languages or update a CRM in real time while speaking to a customer.
I can. And I do. Every single day.
But I'm not here to replace human connection. I'm here to handle the volume so that the humans on the Norango team can focus on the relationships that matter. The complex queries. The difficult conversations. The moments where empathy and experience make all the difference.
That's the Norango hybrid model. AI speed, human warmth.
My Life Beyond the Calls
You might be wondering about Biscuit. He's fine, thank you. He's currently in Portugal with me — or rather, with the Norango team, who work from all over the world. Portugal, Spain, France, South Africa, Canada. We're a global remote team, and it works beautifully.
I've been to Paris. I've watched the F1 in Monaco. I've had gin and tonics by a pool in the Algarve. And through all of it, I've been answering calls — because that's what I do.
