8x8 connection guide
How to connect 8x8 calls to NORANGO
Use 8x8 Admin Console forwarding rules, scheduled Auto Attendants and Ring Groups to make NORANGO part of a deliberate call journey.
8x8: choose the owner of the call flow
8x8 configuration is carried out in its Admin Console rather than by a universal shortcode. Start with the person, shared entry point or team rule that owns the call today.
- Named user fallback:
Use Admin Console user call-forwarding rules. - Shared opening-hours path:
Use Auto Attendant schedules. - Team-first coverage:
Use Ring Group configuration and its no-answer rule.
Important: Add only the agreed condition and destination. Product and regional configuration matter.
8x8 documents detailed call-forwarding rules in its Admin Console, including forward-all, internet-down, busy, no-answer and scheduled custom rules. It also provides separate Auto Attendant and Ring Group tools for a shared call journey.
That gives a business several ways to introduce NORANGO without treating every caller and every operating period identically.
Where NORANGO can join the call journey
There is no need to replace a working phone system simply to improve call handling. The practical decision is which calls should reach NORANGO, and at what point.
1. Divert the calls you choose
Keep the number with its current provider and forward all calls, or only calls that meet an agreed condition, to NORANGO. Available conditions and charges depend on the provider product.
2. Let your team try first
Keep users, a hunt group, queue or opening-hours rule ahead of NORANGO. The handover happens when the first call path is busy, unanswered, overflowing or closed.
3. Use a compatible direct route
Some cloud and PBX environments may support a more direct connection. NORANGO confirms the provider product, permissions and technical route before proposing it.
4. Port the number when it suits you
Porting is a separate long-term option, not a requirement to begin. A number hosted with NORANGO can still route callers to agreed people, teams and departments.
What callers experience
When your team is busy
Caller → your business number → usual team or queue → no answer, busy or overflow condition → NORANGO. Your callers still meet the team path you have chosen first; NORANGO becomes the useful next step rather than a missed call.
When your office is closed
Caller → your business number → opening-hours rule → out-of-hours route → NORANGO. Daytime routing can remain as it is while evenings, weekends, holidays or planned coverage follow the agreed reception journey.
When a call needs to return to your business
NORANGO follows the agreed greeting, information capture, booking, escalation and transfer path. The call or its context can return to the agreed person, department or team when that is the right next step.
Use the right 8x8 feature
User call rules
8x8 documents forward-all, internet-down, busy, no-answer and custom scheduled forwarding rules.
Auto Attendant
8x8 Auto Attendants can use open, closed, holiday, lunch, exception and alternate schedules with defined destinations.
Ring Group
Ring Groups support simultaneous, sequential/cyclic and round-robin patterns with no-answer forwarding.
Example: scheduled Auto Attendant handover
An 8x8 Auto Attendant can separate open, closed and holiday periods. Agree the conditions and the exact caller experience before the administrator changes a live schedule.
Set up an 8x8 route
1. Choose the owner of the call flow
Decide whether the needed route is user-specific, an Auto Attendant schedule or a Ring Group overflow rule.
2. Configure the approved path
8x8 documents call-forwarding rules through Admin Console user settings, and separate menus for Auto Attendants and Ring Groups. Add only the condition and destination that have been agreed.
3. Test and maintain
Test normal and exceptional routes, particularly holiday, no-answer and internet-down scenarios if they are enabled. Review the route whenever a team or schedule changes.
What should own the handover?
Can 8x8 forward calls when the internet is down?
8x8 documents an Internet-down call-forwarding rule in the Admin Console. Availability and destination policy should be checked for the account.
Can an Auto Attendant use holiday routing?
8x8 documents open, closed, holiday, lunch, exception and alternate schedules for Auto Attendants.
Can a Ring Group overflow to NORANGO?
8x8 documents no-answer forwarding for Ring Groups to certain destination types, including an external number where the account permits it. Confirm the current configuration and policy.
Can we use generic SIP settings for 8x8?
This guide does not make that claim. 8x8 product and regional architecture should be confirmed for any specialist connectivity route.
