Zoom Phone connection guide
How to connect Zoom Phone calls to NORANGO
Use Zoom Phone user handling, Call Queues and Auto Receptionist schedules to make NORANGO an appropriate next step for callers.
Zoom Phone: configure the current call owner
Zoom Phone uses its admin and web portal rather than a universal shortcode. First establish whether the caller reaches a user, Call Queue or Auto Receptionist.
- Named user handling:
Use the user Call Handling area. - Team distribution and overflow:
Use the Call Queue profile. - Shared entry point and hours:
Use the Auto Receptionist profile.
Important: For an external destination, confirm DID availability, administrator policy and any metered PSTN position before enabling it.
Zoom Phone documents distinct business, closed, break and holiday call-handling periods for users, separate Call Queue distribution and overflow, and Auto Receptionist routes with business, closed and holiday logic.
A business can use these components to preserve its Zoom number and choose when NORANGO should greet, qualify, assist or escalate a caller.
Where NORANGO can join the call journey
There is no need to replace a working phone system simply to improve call handling. The practical decision is which calls should reach NORANGO, and at what point.
1. Divert the calls you choose
Keep the number with its current provider and forward all calls, or only calls that meet an agreed condition, to NORANGO. Available conditions and charges depend on the provider product.
2. Let your team try first
Keep users, a hunt group, queue or opening-hours rule ahead of NORANGO. The handover happens when the first call path is busy, unanswered, overflowing or closed.
3. Use a compatible direct route
Some cloud and PBX environments may support a more direct connection. NORANGO confirms the provider product, permissions and technical route before proposing it.
4. Port the number when it suits you
Porting is a separate long-term option, not a requirement to begin. A number hosted with NORANGO can still route callers to agreed people, teams and departments.
What callers experience
When your team is busy
Caller → your business number → usual team or queue → no answer, busy or overflow condition → NORANGO. Your callers still meet the team path you have chosen first; NORANGO becomes the useful next step rather than a missed call.
When your office is closed
Caller → your business number → opening-hours rule → out-of-hours route → NORANGO. Daytime routing can remain as it is while evenings, weekends, holidays or planned coverage follow the agreed reception journey.
When a call needs to return to your business
NORANGO follows the agreed greeting, information capture, booking, escalation and transfer path. The call or its context can return to the agreed person, department or team when that is the right next step.
Choose the Zoom Phone route
User call handling
Zoom documents separate business, closed, break and holiday call-handling periods, with busy/unanswered actions.
Call Queue
Zoom Call Queues support distribution modes, overflow and a direct-number context.
Auto Receptionist
Zoom Auto Receptionists can route business, closed, break and holiday calls to permitted destinations.
Example: Zoom Auto Receptionist after-hours route
The Zoom administrator can define the applicable hours and routing destination in the Auto Receptionist configuration. Agree the greeting and next step before it changes a public caller experience.
Set the call flow carefully
1. Identify the Zoom component
Confirm whether the call currently reaches a user, Call Queue or Auto Receptionist, and record the live hours and destination.
2. Configure the documented location
Zoom documents user Call Handling, Call Queue profile and Auto Receptionist profile areas separately in the admin/web portal. Use the section that owns the intended caller path.
3. Confirm policy and call costs
Where a route goes to an external number, confirm DID availability, administrator policy and the applicable metered-rate position before enabling it.
Zoom Phone connection options
Can Zoom Phone route differently at closed hours?
Zoom documents separate business, closed, break and holiday handling for applicable users and Auto Receptionists. Confirm the route owner and permissions.
Can a Zoom Call Queue overflow?
Zoom documents Call Queue distribution and overflow settings. The approved administrator should set the precise threshold and destination.
Does Zoom charge for external forwarding?
Zoom documents that PSTN forwarding to external numbers can be metered, depending on the user, queue or Auto Receptionist plan and destination.
Can we connect an on-premise PBX?
Zoom describes separate BYOC-P and BYOP-P models using supported SBC, SIP Group and routing-rule configurations. This needs a qualified architecture review.
