Webex Calling connection guide
How to connect Webex Calling to NORANGO
Use Control Hub forwarding, Auto Attendant, queue and operating-mode routing to give callers a considered path to NORANGO.
Webex Calling: configure the route owner
Webex Calling uses Control Hub configuration rather than a universal handset shortcode. Start with the user, workspace, queue, Auto Attendant or operating mode that owns the current call.
- User or workspace route:
Use Call Handling for the selected user or workspace. - Shared hours and queue route:
Use Calling Features for Auto Attendants, Call Queues and Operating Mode. - Qualified premises route:
Consider Local Gateway only for an appropriate Cisco or premises-PSTN architecture.
Important: Feature availability, calling-plan scope and porting requirements vary by market, licence and design.
Webex Calling documents several call-routing features in Control Hub: user and workspace forwarding, Auto Attendants, Call Queues and operating modes for scheduled or special routing decisions. These can be used to decide when NORANGO becomes the right next handler.
Cisco also documents Local Gateway connectivity for a qualifying premises/PSTN architecture. This is separate from a simple individual call-forwarding configuration.
Where NORANGO can join the call journey
There is no need to replace a working phone system simply to improve call handling. The practical decision is which calls should reach NORANGO, and at what point.
1. Divert the calls you choose
Keep the number with its current provider and forward all calls, or only calls that meet an agreed condition, to NORANGO. Available conditions and charges depend on the provider product.
2. Let your team try first
Keep users, a hunt group, queue or opening-hours rule ahead of NORANGO. The handover happens when the first call path is busy, unanswered, overflowing or closed.
3. Use a compatible direct route
Some cloud and PBX environments may support a more direct connection. NORANGO confirms the provider product, permissions and technical route before proposing it.
4. Port the number when it suits you
Porting is a separate long-term option, not a requirement to begin. A number hosted with NORANGO can still route callers to agreed people, teams and departments.
What callers experience
When your team is busy
Caller → your business number → usual team or queue → no answer, busy or overflow condition → NORANGO. Your callers still meet the team path you have chosen first; NORANGO becomes the useful next step rather than a missed call.
When your office is closed
Caller → your business number → opening-hours rule → out-of-hours route → NORANGO. Daytime routing can remain as it is while evenings, weekends, holidays or planned coverage follow the agreed reception journey.
When a call needs to return to your business
NORANGO follows the agreed greeting, information capture, booking, escalation and transfer path. The call or its context can return to the agreed person, department or team when that is the right next step.
Use the correct Webex feature
User or workspace forwarding
Webex documents forwarding all calls, busy, unanswered and unreachable calls from user/workspace Call Handling.
Auto Attendant and Call Queue
Webex documents business, after-hours and holiday Auto Attendants, plus queue overflow, night service and forced-forwarding concepts.
Operating modes / Local Gateway
Webex operating modes can drive scheduled forwarding across features; Local Gateway supports qualified premises-PSTN connectivity.
Example: Webex holiday route
Webex documents operating-mode routing and Auto Attendant holiday schedules. This can give callers a useful answer on known exceptional dates rather than leaving a standard path in place.
Configuration sequence
1. Locate the route owner
Confirm whether the number reaches a user, workspace, Auto Attendant, queue or a wider operating-mode design.
2. Use Control Hub settings
Webex documents Call Handling under the relevant user/workspace, and separate Calling Features areas for Auto Attendants, queues and Operating Mode.
3. Test priority and exceptional paths
Test business, after-hours, holiday and any forced-forwarding conditions separately, with an agreed recovery route before changing live calls.
Webex connection choice
Can Webex forward calls when a line is busy or unanswered?
Webex documents user/workspace Call Handling for all calls, busy, unanswered and network-unreachable conditions, subject to the relevant feature configuration.
Can Webex use holiday call routing?
Webex documents holiday schedules for Auto Attendants and operating-mode routing for special scheduled behaviour.
Can a queue route in an emergency?
Webex documents queue behaviours including overflow, night service and forced forwarding. Confirm eligible licence/features and your exact control design.
Can we use any SIP gateway?
Cisco documents Local Gateway procedures and supported conditions. This guide does not claim arbitrary gateway or third-party endpoint compatibility.
